Why use Vitamin C on your Skin?

Free radicals are in the atmosphere and attack our skin on a daily basis causing our skin to age. If you eat an apple and leave it on the side then the oxidation process causes the flesh of the apple to go brown, this is an easy way to explain how free radicals can attack our skin and cause oxidative stress. Antioxidants can stop the free radicals attacking our skin.

As an antioxidant, vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) when used in skin care and applied directly onto the skin can give a protective layer against oxidative stress. It can prevent trans epidermal water loss. Vitamin C can also stimulate the production of new collagen and protect existing collagen. It also has a mild impact on the tyrosinase enzyme which is responsible for pigmentation.

The best time to use Vitamin C is after you have cleansed in the morning (5 drops). It can also reduce inflammation and redness during the reactive phase if you are using the NU DERM system.
